Juan Ignacio Arboleda is a historian of modern Latin America, with a particular focus on Colombia and Brazil. His research explores the social and cultural history of constitutionalism, addressing themes such as democracy, violence, inequality, popular political culture, and participatory state-building. He is also interested in how computers and early internet technologies have shaped democratization processes in the region. He earned his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. His current book project examines how widespread popular participation influenced constitution-making processes in Brazil and Colombia at the end of the Cold War, revealing how citizens helped reimagine democracy and rebuild the state from below. He is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University.
