Political Violence Project

The Political Violence Project at the SNF Agora Institute is committed to exploring the impact of political violence on democracy in America, focusing on essential pillars of democratic systems such as freedom of expression and voting access.

At the core of its work is the Violence and Democracy Impact Tracker (VDIT), a quarterly tool that takes a comprehensive look at political violence’s impact on democracy — covering areas such as election integrity, civil liberties, and the independence of the American judicial and legislative branches.

Additionally, in partnership with Protect Democracy, the Lab brought together insights from over 100 global experts in its 2023-2024 longitudinal study, “Assessing the Effect of Political Violence on American Democracy.” This report offers a critical analysis of how political violence has affected the country’s democratic institutions and traditions.

There is no place for political violence in a healthy democracy.
