Resources For Students

  • The SNF Agora Institute offers courses on democracy, civic life, and social issues, including classes for the Civic Life Minor, Moral and Political Economy Major, and other university programs.

  • The Civic Life Minor prepares students from any major to engage thoughtfully with democracy, community, and public life, both locally and globally.

  • The B.A. program in Moral and Political Economy is an interdisciplinary major that inspires students to think about economic problems in their social, cultural, moral, and political contexts.

  • SNF Agora Institute faculty, fellows, and affiliates periodically seek the support of student research assistants for a variety of academic projects.

  • Our student grants program supports Johns Hopkins University students and student organizations whose work complements the institute’s mission of strengthening global democracy through powerful civic engagement and informed, inclusive dialogue.

  • SNF Agora hosts events that connect students with scholars, practitioners, and peers to explore pressing questions about democracy and civic life. These events include interactive workshops, speaker series, seminars, and public forums that encourage open dialogue, critical thinking, and collaborative learning.

  • The predoctoral program, funded by the JHU Provost’s Office, offers a one-year fellowship open to college graduates from all disciplinary backgrounds who are interested in studying under-represented groups while pursuing a PhD in SNF Agora disciplines. Predoctoral fellows work with two faculty mentors and one graduate student mentor and devote approximately 40 hours per week to multidisciplinary learning.

  • The postdoctoral program offers a one- to two-year fellowship that supports recent doctoral degree recipients whose scholarship engages with questions and topics directly related to the institute’s mission. Postdoctoral fellows conduct research and either teach a course or participate in an active institute project.
