James R. Jones, Rutgers University

Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and Sociology

“The Last Plantation: Racism and Resistance in the Halls of Congress”

Jones investigates the careers, work experiences, and activism of Black congressional staffers. He demonstrates how lawmakers and lawmaking has maintained a racialized workplace. Given that Congress is the source of federal laws, it is an ideal site to understand how white supremacy diffuses through law, politics, and everyday social life.
