History is marked by constant change, and so is the history of global democracy. While some governing institutions and leaders have not always embraced democratic values, universities have endured as places of free expression and idea exchange. Despite their strengths, universities face challenges in today’s divisive climate. How can they continue to promote and safeguard democratic values?

SNF Dialogues, in collaboration with the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University, bring this discussion to the university campus, engaging experts and students alike. This event, as part of an SNF Dialogues series on civic engagement and civil discourse in the US, will take place on November 12 at the Johns Hopkins University Campus, in Baltimore, MD, USA.

Speakers will include Hahrie Han, Director of the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University, John Holmwood, Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the University of Nottingham, Irene Mulvey, Professor Emerita of Mathematics at Fairfield University, John Tomasi, President of Heterodox Academy, and Johns Hopkins University students.
