Project MUSE and SNF Agora Launch a Series of Case Studies on Democracy

Baltimore, MD – Project MUSE, a division of Johns Hopkins University Press, and the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University, announce a series of open access Case Studies on Democracy now available on the Project MUSE platform.

The case studies are part of the SNF Agora’s larger mission as an academic and public forum that integrates research, teaching, and practice to improve and expand powerful civic engagement and informed, inclusive dialogue as the cornerstone of a robust global democracy.

They are open access on Project MUSE so that practitioners, teachers, organizational leaders, and trainers working with civic and political leaders, students, and trainees can use them to deepen their skills and to develop insights about how to approach strategic choices and dilemmas.

According to, Stephen Ruckman at SNF Agora, “Unlike many case studies, ours do not focus on individual leaders or other decision-makers. Instead, the SNF Agora case studies are about choices that groups make collectively. Therefore, these cases work well as prompts for group discussions. The basic question in each case is: “What would we do?”

These case studies have been developed by a mix of SNF Agora’s core faculty, visiting fellows, and research team members, along with other experts associated with the institute.

Project MUSE and The SNF Agora Institute are committed to broadening access to and increasing engagement with this vital scholarship. Moreover, they invite readers to explore and download the case studies, which are provided to the public free of charge for academic and educational use only. They may not be used as part of any commercial activity.

“Considering the frequently fragile state of democratic institutions worldwide, this collection of case studies arrives on our platform at a critical time and emphasizes our commitment to advancing peer-reviewed, trusted scholarly research and ensuring it is accessible to our global audience,” commented Wendy Queen, Director of Project MUSE.
