At the Center for the Future of Arizona, she supports strategies to improve civic health, including participatory budgeting, where students make decisions over a portion of the district’s budget.

Schugurensky is a professor in the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University, where he is the founding director of the Participatory Governance Initiative, the director of the master's in social and cultural pedagogy, and the coordinator of the graduate and the undergraduate certificates in social transformation.
